Just like in the manga though, due to the tournament, things are much more peaceful between humans and demons, with Yusuke's role as Spirit Detective rather unnecessary. There is no unhappy revelation and King Enma isn't portrayed as a villain by any means. After the tournament, Yusuke eventually travels back to the Human World in order to keep his promise to Keiko.

The anime, on the other hand, allowed the series to end on a way brighter note. Even Yusuke felt remorseful about his actions once he learned the truth. It was a sad and rather dark ending, especially considering how much Yusuke and his friends had been through and accomplished. While Yusuke was portrayed as a delinquent with a heart of gold, bravely fighting against evil demons and monsters, the truth was that he was little more than a pawn in a corrupt politician's game, killing innocent demons that were being forced to commit heinous acts against their will. Fans were rather upset about this ending, mainly due to how it affected the story in retrospect.
As a result, by the end, he is ousted as ruler by Koenma himself.įurthermore, King Enma would kidnap weaker demons and brainwash them into attacking humans to create "proof" that he was in the moral right. However, these were greedy and totalitarian actions made by a corrupt king. This was in an effort to justify creating the barriers between the Human and Demon Worlds, as well as claiming territories, as necessary and noble acts of justice. Koenma's father Enma, who was king of the Spirit World, had been falsifying records about demons committing attacks on humans. In the manga, once the tournament that decides the new king of the Demon World is over, Koenma discovers that the Spirit World had been lying for centuries, if not millennia, about the danger of demons. The "Three Kings" arc is present in both the manga and the anime, though it's what happens after the tournament that was changed. This is due to the anime going in a slightly different direction than the manga, hoping to bring the series to a close in a more organic and uplifting way than in the source material. Karasu does not kill Kurama but does proclaim that he’ll kill him when they fight in the finals and foreshadows the death of one of his teammates (Genkai).While the ending was rather abrupt to say the least, it's rather different depending on how one experienced the story. After taking off Midorenja’s arms, Karasu finished him off by destroying his entire body.įollowing their victory against Gorenja, Karasu and Bui intercepted Kurama, taking an immediate interest in him and his desire to kill. Karasu battled Midorenja and utilized his ability to create explosions from the touch of his hands against him. With his teammates Elder Toguro and Bui, Karasu faced off against Team Gorenja. Karasu later took part in the semi-finals of the Dark Tournament.
While Younger Toguro fought the Spirit Warriors, Karasu watched the match from the sidelines with Elder Toguro. During the first round, Karasu chose to sit out Team Toguro's first fight and allowed Younger Toguro to fight their opponents single handedly. Karasu is first seen with Younger Toguro watching the first match of the Dark Tournament, having heard about Team Urameshi and become curious about them.
Together as Team Toguro they would go on to be the reigning champions of the Dark Tournament. As members of Team Toguro, Karasu and Bui would train for years to become strong enough killing the Toguro brothers. Karasu told the Toguro’s to kill them or they would one day get stronger and take revenge, but the Toguro brothers instead chose to spare them and recruit them into their team. They eventually challenged the Toguro brothers only to be defeated and beaten nearly to death.
